Question about products

Post by shwcollected »

I haven't seen it here, on 3dshards, but the other big site, I have noticed a trend toward strange, really fake looking figures. Are those created with an AI or is there a trend toward tiny heads and long limbs, or eyes low on the face and pointed chins?
Its not just the proportions, but overall the quality has started to look AI.

For me, real is better, as I design book covers. Historical products, fantasy, etc... are much appreciated, but fast produced, odd looking items just won't make me buy them.

I'm hoping this doesn't come off as A complaint because I'm honestly curious if there is a new way people are creating figures now.

hello, lot of other sites does not make quality checks, or goes quantity instead quality. We take care about it.
Lot of artists "inspire" from AI, sadly on other sites dont tell its ai used or not (we do, where ai used, under attributes tab) (I reported them on daz 3d site, few times, without any effect, i belive the low quality items bad for the whole market. on that site forbid to use ai, but many pa uses :S ).

The only long legged weird proposition character what i know is Spindle Fae (https://3dshards.com/product/spindle-fa ... -8-female/ ) what i made with Sickleyield, it was based on my drawing, she made morph, i overdraw her morph for changes, send back, she morphed, etc, she is definiately no related to AI :))

If you write more exact thing, not general, we can see what we can do. No promise, but but we see :)

Yeah I despise AI. I think it remove the artist from the art. Though I do understand being inspired by it.
I like your character, also because I believe it is meant to look like that. These others, I don't think that was the plan. I can link to them, but I don't want to hurt anyones feelings. More I was wondering if that was a thing that designers are doing.

Not sure AI is the reason for this... is it possible to do this with AI? (I really don't know nothing about it).

My guesses are these:

The marvelous disaster that is G9 is the main culprit for off looking proportions. With that horrible base, all those proportion sliders and the bends, it's very difficult to make a character that doesn't look wrong. Even mixing is hard; no matter how much I try to polish them, the characters always look off to me (and I'm not even aiming for full realism); I'd imagine it's even harder to make it from scratch.
A few artists are able to work well with it (until you pose it without hiding the bends under clothes, at least), others not so much. I'm tired of seeing those males with arms larger than legs in so many promos. I know it's a subjective thing, maybe you like G9, but from what I see, this is the main cause.

Also, a lot of those who recently moved from rendo to daz used to work exclusively with g8 and now switched to g9, making them work with an unfamiliar base.

The heavy discounts. With so much stacking, it's very easy to get even new releases extremely cheap. Artists making a living out of this seem to go in 2 directions:

- Keep making quality assets and increasing the base price to very high numbers, so they're still left with something after all the discounts (and probably giving up any chance of ever selling at full price)
- Focus on quantity and cut corners, releasing similar products very fast, with little to no customization options. This is the option most seem to prefer. I'll refrain from pointing out anyone too, but there's a hair artist who used to make excellent and distinctive hairs with many many options and morphs, that were released rarely. Now the hairs come out very often and design / polish / options / morphs are all gone.

And both are vital for this hobby to work really. While I need quality items for the spotlight of my renders, I also need plenty of cheap/free filler and background items to be able to make a decent scene. Unfortunately most "marketing experts", that have just a degree and no clue about the hobby will never understand this... and that how decisions are taken in big places, which makes artist have to try and do their best to work around those silly decisions.

I was looking through to find the ones that I thought were odd looking to me and I see it is two artists in particular, so maybe it is just their taste. Maybe its a face transfer program that is doing it, but it is as off-putting to me as AI images. I can post a link to a few, but I have no idea if that is in poor taste.

I like to think everybody recognize the good quality, let`s focus to them :) However we long time plan a Critique Corner, where people can review a product (from any stores) objective way.

It was a very nice surprise to see Arah3D in the store :) . I have many of their outfits and accessories from Renderosity, which are of very high quality, and very unique.
Will they (she?) also be posting new products here? I see they just released a new Halloween-themed dress on Renderosity?
