Project Casa de Ollie

Post by Websoul »

A couple of months ago I joined Epic Games Project Titan. It was a collective art jam with 3000 people who created a world together and was a ton of fun to build. Then Sade did an challenge with creating textures for the soda can and because of the overwhelming response it seems to me that everyone liked that idea.

So I would like to create our very own miniature Project Titan for Shards.
I call it Project Casa de Ollie or short Project Ollie, Why? Because La Casa de Ollie was my daughter's chinchilla cage that we build and painted from scratch and was huge with lots of decorations and also a LOT smaller than a complete world.

The name fits perfectly with the reward for participating in the Project, A cute plushie chinchilla called Ollie :D

I was thinking of slowly building a vacation villa from scratch I want to create props for the plushies but I want it to be a fun project where everyone can join and learn and the end result will be free for everyone to download at Shards.

There are a lot of details that I will have to think about and every suggestion is welcome.
Things like, where do we store the scene files and how do we coordinate the build process.

So as a first post I want to gather information on what everyone would love to build. So in the comments below let me know
If you want to join the project and what your skills are that you want to use (or learn), Modelling / Texturing / morphing / concept art / etc.

It is ment to be a fun learning experience for everyone and every thought is welcome.

Fascinating idea, I think for starters this would require at least a layout or an empty house, then everyone can start adding furnishings or even extra rooms and so on.

My brain never stops thinking unfortunately and when I tink further on the project another interesting option could be to create cartoon style props or houses for the plushies and have all kinds of textures for them. We would need lots of idea's for plushie props / houses but I think it would fit better in the theme of the project.
Someting like
A Dog house for the shiba with a very large round opening.
A pond for the croc
A scratching post for the cat
Etc.

Let me know what you think of the project and if you prefer the plushie props or the vacation villa.

I have thought on that but it all depends on how many people are joining and what they want to do.
If I am the only one making props and everyone just wants to texture that is fine too but then I would need to change tactics since I am slow as heck in making props and it is not likely that we will ever finish an entire house.

So I was thinking of starting with singular props and then bring them together

Awesome, one thing we should keep in mind that it should be fairly easy for people with photoshop to texture since it will be a group project for everyone and not everyone has Substance Painter unfortunately.

So I will be fiddling with UV's a lot probably.
I will work on a doghouse with a huge hole in the front for the shiba tonight.

If you have any idea's on what you would like to make as a plushie prop, could be something for them to sit on or maybe an outfit / hat / jewelry or anything else fun that other people can texture and work on.

I'll give it some though and let you know what I come up with. Making wearable presets for them will be tricky, you can't see the displacement while modelling, so making a good fit will involve some guessing.

Hello creatives! I would love to join in with modeling. Anything you might need for a house... and anything wearable or that can be made in reality from fabric :) Cheers, Meli

I am not very good with creating anything yet, but I would be happy to try to do some textures. Usually I just make textures with repeating seamless tiles, but I was able to figure out how to texture the soda can, so I can certainly try! I think this sounds like a fun idea :D
